Ahrens Hired as Director of Building Inspections
A 38-year-old Virginia Tech graduate who's worked as a building inspector and building official in Virginia and Pennsylvania and who ran his own commercial construction company has been hired as the City of Knoxville's Director of Building Inspections.
Building Services Employees Honored for Going Above and Beyond Their Assigned Duties
Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Police Chief David Rausch today named building services employees Michael Mathes and Chris Roberts the Civilian Employees of the Month for October. Mathes has been with the Knoxville Police Department since December 2012 while Roberts has been with KPD since July 2013.
January Market Report
Memphis-area home sales for January were down 14.9 percent from a year ago, with 1,083 total sales recorded in the Memphis Area Association of REALTORS® MAARdata property records database. Sales were flat from December, when there were 1,088 total sales. Average sales price year-over-year increased 10.9 percent to $139,721. Inventory was down 5.5 percent with 5,849 units listed for sale. January sales volume decreased 5.6 percent to $151.3 million from 2013
Mayor: McClung Building to be Razed for Public Safety
Mayor Madeline Rogero told City Council members tonight that the remaining McClung Warehouse building on Jackson Avenue will need to be demolished for public safety reasons.

Memphis-area home sales for December were down 10.1 percent from a year ago, with 1,088 total sales recorded in the Memphis Area Association of REALTORS® MAARdata property records database. However, YTD sales for 2013 rose 6.7 percent to 16,159. Average sales price YTD increased 10.6 percent to $143,395. Inventory was down 4.8 percent with 6,190 units listed for sale. Sales volume YTD increased 18.4 percent to $2.32 billion

Groundbreaking for New Housing in Lonsdale
On Thursday, Dec. 19 at 3:30 p.m., Mayor Madeline Rogero will join officials from the East Tennessee Housing Development Corporation to break ground on two new houses that ETHDC is building on lots in the Lonsdale neighborhood. The two lots are located at 3425 and 3435 Bishop St. The homes are expected to be priced at $110,000. They are currently planned as three bedrooms, two baths, and approximately 1,176 square feet.
November Market Report
Memphis-area home sales for November were down 2.9 percent from a year ago, with 1,154 total sales recorded in the Memphis Area Association of REALTORS® MAARdata property records database. Total sales declined 16.3 percent from October. Average sales price YTD rose 10.7 percent to $143,341. Inventory was down 1.7 percent with 6,504 units listed for sale. Sales volume YTD increased 19.4 percent to $2.15 billion.
