Shelby County Trustee promotes county tax sale, land bank

Memphis, TN – August 22, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The Shelby County Real Estate Road Show starts its second year Aug. 28 with an event that will provide information on the County’s Tax Sale and Land Bank in English and Spanish, Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir said.

The Road Show will be held at the Hickory Hill Community Center, 3910 Ridgeway Road. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the 90-minute program starting at 6 p.m.

Real estate data firm Chandler Reports will sponsor the Real Estate Road Show and provide a light snack. La Prensa Latina is participating as a media sponsor. There is no cost to attend, however registration is encouraged since space is limited. Representatives from the Chancery Court Clerk & Master’s office, as well as a title attorney from the Trustee’s office, will be available to answer questions.

Since August 2012, the Trustee’s Office has held Road Shows around the county for a number of groups, including Realtors, real estate attorneys, the non-profit sector and neighborhood redevelopment organizations.

The Road Show was created to promote the Shelby County Tax Sale and Shelby County Land Bank, as well as solicit comments from the public to help us improve the process of divesting county-owned property, Trustee Lenoir said.

“We have had more than 300 people attend one of these events and the feedback we’ve gotten has been invaluable,” Lenoir said. “I’m very concerned about the large number of county-owned properties and real estate in the county that is not being used to its full capacity by the private sector.”

Tax sales are held by the Shelby County Chancery Court Clerk & Master’s office with management support from the Trustee’s office. The county conducts four tax sales a year, held in the County Commission chambers at 160 N. Main. The next tax sale is scheduled for Sept. 13.

To register for the event, go to www.shelbycountytrustee.com and click on the “Real Estate Road Show” item under “Events.” Updates also will be posted on the Trustee’s Facebook page and Twitter at #ShelbyRoadShow.
