WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 28, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced a total of $1,352,963 in federal funds to support affordable housing programs and facilities in Shelby County. This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Grant programs.

“One of the building blocks of living a happy, successful life is access to quality-affordable housing,” said Congressman Cohen. “This infusion of federal funds will help Shelby County develop and sustain affordable housing throughout the Ninth District.”

Under today’s announcement, Shelby County will receive $1,076,137 in CDBG funds, which are used to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. The remaining $276,826 for Shelby County comes through HUD’s HOME Program, which helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to fund housing programs that meet local and priorities.
