WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 17, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded the Memphis Housing Authority (MHA) more than $10 million for capital and management activities that include modernization and development of public housing.  The funds were made available through HUD’s Capital Fund Program.

“Increasing access to quality, affordable housing during these tough economic times is crucial for Memphis and Memphians,” said Congressman Cohen.  “This new federal funding will help the Memphis Housing Authority modernize its housing and improve the quality of life for many residents.”

The Capital Fund program provides federal funds annually via a formula to approximately 3,200 public housing agencies (PHAs) across the country.  PHAs may use Capital Fund grants for development, financing, modernization, and management improvements.
